Digital radiography (digital x-ray) is the latest technology used to take dental x-rays. An electronic sensor captures and stores the digital image on a computer. This image can be instantly viewed and enlarged helping Dr. Gapstur diagnose dental problems more easily. Digital x-rays reduce radiation 80-90% compared to the already low exposure of traditional dental x-rays.
Not only do digital x-rays give us brilliantly clear pictures of your teeth quickly and safely, but they are also kinder to the environment. In the past, traditional film x-rays required the use of many hundreds of gallons of chemicals each year to produce the on-film images of our patients’ teeth. After use, these substances were disposed of as hazardous materials.
